"Like many people who have long careers, I thought I had mastered the balancing act between work life and home life. But when I lost my job recently I discovered, to my horror, that the rest of my life wasn't nearly as neat and orderly as my work life had been. I was determined to use the opportunity to address the mess that had accumulated over the years, starting with my closets: bulging with clothes that "might fit again someday," favorites from the '90s ('80s?!?), bargains that didn't match anything else, and items in various stages of disrepair.
